About ReBuild

Background
Rebuild is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in May 2008 to acquire a warehouse that can accept used building material donations, sell the products as deeply discounted prices to the public, and use the proceeds to train unemployed and underemployed unskilled workers for “green collar” jobs.  It acquired leased warehouse facilities in January 2009 and opened its doors to the public on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) 2009.
Located in Springfield, VA near the Edsall Road exit of I-395 and just off Backlick Road, it is easily accessible to Virginia, DC, and Maryland via I-395 or I-495 (Beltway). [click here for ReBuild Warehouse map]
Organization Mission
Increase the quantity of used building materials purchased and reused for new building, renovation, and repairs
Provide training in career pathways for unskilled workers in expanding “green collar” industries
Goals
Provide an option for builders and homeowners to donate unwanted building materials, equipment, and supplies, rather than discard these into a landfill
Enable builders and homeowners to claim a tax deduction for donating their unwanted material to ReBuild
Establish appropriate training curricula in such “green collar” occupations as deconstruction, warehouse management, retail sales, home weatherization, solar panel installation, commercial woodworking, delivery truck driving asbestos abatement, pesticide application, green roof installation, stormwater management, tree planting, and wetland restoration.
Use the proceeds from the sale of these materials to provide or subsidize unskilled workers to obtain appropriate industry licenses, certification, on-the-job training, and experience in “green collar” positions
Provide affordable building materials to builders, renovators, property managers, and homeowners that enables them to build or renovate structures that might otherwise be too costly to do so.

ReBuild is a non profit organization founded in 2009.
